Ending of International Coalition’s Mission in Iraq Resulted from Three Governments’ Efforts

Baghdad:The International Coalition’s mission in Iraq concluded as a result of a cumulative process involving three successive governments, each complementing the efforts of its predecessor, according to Qasim Al-Araji, the Prime Minister’s Security Advisor.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Araji detailed the process, starting with the government of Mustafa Al-Kadhimi in 2021, which initiated political and official steps that transitioned the Coalition’s role from combat to training, advising, and support.

The succeeding government of Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani continued these efforts through intensive negotiations, which by 2024 established a timeline and specific phases to conclude the Coalition’s mission, setting the stage for bilateral security relations.

Finally, under the government of Ali Al-Zaidi, the agreed phases were implemented, culminating in the termination of the Coalition’s mission on September 30, 2026. Al-Araji emphasized that this integrated diplomatic effort prioritized Iraq’s national interests.

Al-Araji expressed gratitude to those who supported Iraq against ISIS, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, and honored Iraq’s martyrs and security forces for their sacrifices in defending the nation.
