Environmental Police in Diyala File Lawsuit Against Hospital Over Waste Incinerator

Baghdad: The Environmental Police in Diyala have filed a lawsuit against Al-Batoul Teaching Hospital for Women and Children in the province, due to environmental violations related to its medical waste incinerator.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Environmental Police stated in a press release: "A field team inspected the hospital and found that the waste incinerator did not meet environmental and health requirements, in addition to emitting plumes of smoke affecting neighboring residential areas."

They added: "Environmental police units acted in response to repeated appeals and complaints from residents of nearby areas regarding the smoke emanating from the incinerator, despite having contacted the relevant authorities in the province to address the problem."

They explained that: "Legal measures have been taken and a lawsuit has been filed against the hospital administration for the incinerator's failure to meet the environmental and health requirements."
