Gabala: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan headed to Azerbaijan on Tuesday morning to participate in the 12th Summit of the Organization of Turkic Speaking States (OTS).

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the 12th Summit of the Organization of Turkic Speaking States (OTS) leaders is being held today, Tuesday, in the Azerbaijani city of Gabala. This year’s summit is being held under the theme “Regional Peace and Security” and will review efforts to strengthen the OTS’s institutional structure and cooperation within it.

The OTS was established on October 3, 2009, under the name “Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council),” following the signing of the Nakhchivan Agreement between Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. At the 2019 Baku Summit, Uzbekistan announced its accession, bringing the organization’s membership to five, in addition to Turkmenistan, Hungary, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as observers.

At the 2021 Istanbul Summit, it was decided to change the organization’s name from the Turkic Council to the Organization of Turkic Speaking States.
