Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared that Turkey will persist in its robust defense of the Palestinian cause across all international platforms. Speaking at a joint press conference with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ankara, Erdogan emphasized Turkey’s commitment to a two-state solution and criticized Israeli policies under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Erdogan condemned what he described as the genocidal actions of the Israeli government, pointing to illegal practices in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem. He highlighted data from the United Nations indicating the displacement of approximately 3,800 Palestinians in 2026 due to settler activities, demolitions, and forced evictions, with nearly 100 Palestinians killed. Erdogan stressed that these actions undermine the existence of a sovereign Palestinian state.
Erdogan reiterated the international community’s responsibility, particularly the Islamic world, in supporting Palestine. He expressed optimism about the upcoming Palestinian legislative and presidential elections, hoping they would foster reconciliation and unity among Palestinians. Erdogan also voiced strong opposition to any provocations aimed at altering the status of significant religious sites like Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Addressing the Gaza Strip, Erdogan accused the Israeli administration of maintaining an inflexible stance despite international efforts for peace. He urged for conditions that would allow for Gaza’s reconstruction and security, emphasizing the people’s desire for peace.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas echoed Erdogan’s sentiments, expressing gratitude for Turkey’s support and humanitarian aid. Abbas highlighted the importance of regional dialogue and noted the significance of a joint defense agreement between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan.
