Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has confirmed that the Turkish people continue to stand by Al-Quds and Palestine, emphasizing their unwavering support in confronting the Israeli occupation. Erdogan made these remarks during a speech following a Ramadan Iftar banquet with Palestinians in Ankara, reinforcing Turkey’s commitment to this stance.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Erdogan rejected any projects aimed at displacing Palestinians from their land and causing a second Nakba. He underscored Turkey’s solidarity with “the heroes of Gaza,” condemning efforts to distort the image of the Palestinian resistance by labeling it as a terrorist organization.
Erdogan further elaborated on the importance of establishing a free and sovereign Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital for a just and lasting solution. He reiterated Turkey’s historical and ongoing support for Palestine, emphasizing the shared destiny and brotherhood that has persisted for four centuries.
The Turkish president paid tribute to Palestinians worldwide, particularly in Gaza, Al-Quds, and the West Bank, recognizing their resilience and dignity. He described the actions of Israel in Gaza as a significant blemish on human history, expressing condolences for the martyrs who have fallen in the struggle for freedom and dignity.
Erdogan highlighted Turkey’s historical connection to Al-Quds, mentioning the last Ottoman battalion’s departure in 1917 and its continued efforts to protect Al-Aqsa Mosque. Since the attacks on Gaza began on October 7, 2023, Turkey has mobilized resources to halt the violence and has consistently advocated for Palestinians in international forums, including the United Nations.
The Turkish President noted Turkey’s contributions, including facilitating the recognition of the State of Palestine by nine countries, intervening in the genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice, delivering substantial humanitarian aid to Gaza, and halting trade with Israel, which amounted to an estimated $9.4 billion.
