Baghdad: European nations have agreed to boycott upcoming World Cup tournaments in response to FIFA's plans to sell stakes in its competitions to private investors. The decision was made during a virtual meeting of the 55 member associations of UEFA.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the next World Cups are scheduled to take place with the Women's tournament in Brazil next summer and the Men's tournament in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco in 2030. FIFA confirmed earlier this week its plans to sell a significant minority stake in a new company, FIFA Forward Enterprises, which will manage the commercial operations of its major competitions, including the World Cup and the Club World Cup.

The proposal has faced strong opposition, with UEFA stating, "This crosses a line that football's governing bodies should never cross." CONCACAF also criticized the process, expressing concern about the lack of due process and transparency, stating they were only informed of the matter through media reports and subsequently through a press release.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) expressed disappointment that such an important matter was made public before the AFC had the opportunity to study and discuss it through the proper governance channels. Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed its participation in the consultation process and encouraged its member associations to study the proposals.
