Explosion at Military Barracks in Viacha Leaves Over 10 Dead and Dozens Injured

Viacha: Local authorities in Bolivia reported that at least 10 people were killed and dozens injured in an explosion at a military barracks in the city of Viacha, about 30 kilometers from the capital, La Paz. The explosion occurred around 2:30 PM local time in an area within the military complex used for storing pyrotechnics, according to authorities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the cause of the explosion is still unclear, but officials indicated it was caused by a stockpile of fireworks belonging to the Ministry of Defense. Viacha’s health director, Rita Nebraska, told a local television station that the death toll could range between 10 and 15, while 62 others were injured. She added that 14 of the injured were transferred to hospitals in La Paz.

Police stated that more than 50 people were injured, and dozens of homes in the vicinity were damaged, mostly due to shattered windows caused by the force of the blast. Ambulances, medical teams, and police forces were deployed inside the military co
mplex to assess the damage and transport the injured to medical facilities.

Firefighters warned that a heat source remained at the site, which could increase the risk of another explosion, while authorities urged residents to stay at least 150 meters away from the area.
