Baghdad: The head of the Federal Integrity Commission is advocating for a unified Islamic alliance to tackle corruption and recover misappropriated funds. Mohammed Ali al-Lami, leading the commission, met with Mohammed Samir al-Naqshbandi, Director of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in Baghdad to discuss enhancing cooperation in combating transnational corruption.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Lami emphasized the necessity of bolstering international and regional cooperation to ensure effective law enforcement, prevent corruption, and prosecute those responsible. He highlighted that integrity and the protection of public funds are fundamental principles in Islamic Sharia and called for a collaborative effort among Islamic nations to address corruption.

Both officials stressed the need for increased cooperation among member states, focusing on exchanging expertise and information, providing mutual legal assistance, and improving coordination among agencies enforcing anti-corruption laws. Such efforts are expected to aid in prosecuting offenders and recovering assets.

The commission's statement noted that Iraq's Cabinet has ratified an agreement to enhance information exchange and investigations among law enforcement agencies. The agreement also aims to foster cooperation in training and technical assistance, covering crimes such as bribery, embezzlement, influence peddling, abuse of office, illicit enrichment, and money laundering, all while respecting state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
