Filipino Alexandra Ayala Wins the Washington Open Women’s Tennis Title

Baghdad: Filipino player Alexandra Ayala won the Washington Open women's tennis tournament (ATP 500) after defeating American Jessica Pegula in three sets on Monday. The 21-year-old Ayala, ranked 20th in the world, overcame a first-set deficit (4-6) to win the next two sets (6-4, 6-0).

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the final match had been suspended on Sunday due to inclement weather and resumed on Monday. This victory marks Ayala's second final appearance, having previously lost the Eastbourne final in England last year. It is also her first ATP 500 title, adding to her wins in Guadalajara, Mexico (ATP 125) and Birmingham, England (ATP 125).

For her part, Pegula, ranked third in the world and first in the tournament, failed to secure her twelfth career title and third title this year.
