Finance Minister to Iranian Central Bank Governor: Strait of Hormuz Closure Has Negative Impacts on the Iraqi Economy


Baghdad: Finance Minister Faleh Sari confirmed to the governor of the Iranian Central Bank, Abdolnaser Hemmati, on Monday, that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has had negative effects on the Iraqi economy.



According to Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the ministry indicated that “Finance Minister Faleh Sari received Iranian Central Bank Governor Abdolnasser Hemmati, in the presence of the Iranian Ambassador to Iraq, Mohammad Kazem Al-Sadegh.”



The meeting addressed economic and financial relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen them in a manner that serves the interests of both neighboring countries.



Furthermore, the statement highlighted that the meeting discussed the repercussions of the Strait of Hormuz closure and its negative impact on the Iraqi economy, particularly on oil exports and revenue flows.



For his part, the Iranian Central Bank Governor affirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening economic and financial cooperation with Iraq and continuing joint efforts to support the stability and prosperity of the Iraqi economy.
