Strait of hormuz: Five massive oil slicks have been spotted in the Strait of Hormuz, raising alarms about potential environmental threats to the Iranian and Omani coasts and nearby nature reserves. Recent satellite images have confirmed these large oil slicks, with environmental organization Greenpeace highlighting the severity of the situation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the pollution has reached the Iranian coast near protected areas on Qeshm Island, which is home to extensive mangrove forests. Furthermore, a slick has been detected on the southern coast of Oman, a critical habitat for migratory birds.

The oil spill is suspected to be linked to the sinking of the oil tanker “Resco” following recent attacks in the region. Additionally, there is an expanding oil slick off the coast of Oman, associated with the sanctioned tanker “Caroline Bizengi.” This spill has visibly spread across approximately 600 square kilometers. However, pinpointing the exact causes of the spill remains challenging due to limited data and adverse weather conditions.
