Doha: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums, emphasized the importance of cultural exchange in strengthening communication among peoples.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release: "Minister Fuad Hussein met with the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums. During the meeting, they discussed prospects for cooperation in cultural fields and ways to enhance the partnership between Iraq and Qatar within the framework of cultural diplomacy, which contributes to expanding the scope of cultural exchange between the two countries."
Sheikha Al-Mayassa expressed her desire to hold a comprehensive exhibition highlighting the career of the late Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, as one of the leading creative figures on a global scale.
For his part, Fuad Hussein expressed Iraq's readiness to fully cooperate in ensuring the success of this initiative, in coordination with the relevant Iraqi ministries and authorities.
The two sides also discussed ways to enhance cultural cooperation and exchange visits among institutions concerned with the arts and museums, emphasizing the role of cultural exchange as a tool of soft diplomacy in strengthening communication between peoples.
The Foreign Minister noted Iraq's commitment to protecting its heritage and developing its tourist and archaeological cities, particularly Ur and Babylon, and the efforts being made to revitalize historical sites and enhance their cultural presence.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister extended an invitation to Sheikha Al-Mayassa to visit Iraq and explore its cultural and heritage landmarks, most notably the Iraqi National Museum.
