Baghdad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed the rapidly evolving situation in the region in a phone call with French Foreign Minister Jean-No«l Barrot on Sunday. This was their second call in recent days, reflecting ongoing consultations and coordination between the two sides.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the call included an assessment of the ongoing war and its impact on regional security and stability. They also discussed the situation in Iran following the assassination of the Supreme Leader and several other Iranian leaders, and the potential political and security repercussions.
Minister Fuad Hussein stressed the need for European countries and the European Union to play a more active role in pressing for a ceasefire, working to de-escalate tensions, and preventing the conflict from spreading further, thus creating the necessary conditions for political and diplomatic solutions.
For his part, the French Foreign Minister expressed his country’s continued support for Iraq and its commitment to ongoing coordination and cooperation to enhance security and stability in the region.
