Foreign Minister Expresses Concern Over War’s Impact on Iraq


Baghdad: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed that “Iraq is now directly affected by the course of the war.” A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that “Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received a phone call from British Minister of State for the Middle East Hamish Falconer, during which they discussed the developments of the war and its repercussions on the region.”



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the call included a comprehensive assessment of the field and political situation, during which the British minister reviewed his country’s new position. This included noting the authorization for US forces to use certain facilities, while working to facilitate related procedures.



The Foreign Minister affirmed that Iraq is now directly affected by the course of the war, warning that its continuation would exacerbate instability and create chaos in the region. He questioned the objectives of prolonging the conflict, given the resulting losses and humanitarian and security repercussions.



He stressed the necessity of intensifying international and regional efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire, which would contribute to containing the escalation and creating the conditions for restoring stability.
