Babylon: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, accompanied Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, the Speaker of the Swiss Parliament, and their delegation on a field tour of the ancient city of Babylon.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the delegation was received by Babylon Governor Adnan Fayhan, who guided them during their exploration of the historic city. He provided an explanation of Babylon’s civilization, its historical importance, and its geographical significance, along with the governorate’s efforts to boost tourism and achieve urban development amid Iraq’s security and political stability.
During the tour, the Swiss Foreign Minister expressed admiration for the Babylonian heritage and its significance for human civilization, affirming Switzerland’s interest in enhancing cultural and tourism cooperation with Iraq.
Fuad Hussein highlighted that visiting Babylon is like stepping into the heart of human history and civilization, noting that this visit opens new avenues for Iraq-Switzerland cooperation, especially in cultural and tourism sectors.
He mentioned that discussions were held on cultural exchange between the two countries and the possibility of establishing a twinning agreement between a Swiss city and Babylon, which would strengthen cultural and humanitarian ties between their peoples.
The statement explained that this visit is a diplomatic move that showcases Iraq’s rich history and positions it as a stable country open to international cultural and tourism partnerships.
