New york: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, engaged in a critical dialogue with Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), at the Iraq office in the United Nations building. This meeting occurred on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Lazzarini provided a comprehensive overview of the obstacles confronting the agency, particularly the systematic campaigns undermining its operations and the restrictions imposed by Israel on the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza. These constraints have left hundreds of thousands without essential resources such as food, medicine, and basic services, while also jeopardizing the continuity of crucial services like education and healthcare.
Fuad Hussein highlighted the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza, underlining the dangers posed by attacks on infrastructure and the escalating famine in the northern Gaza Strip due to the blockade on food and medical aid. The Minister reiterated Iraq’s unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people, stressing the importance of increasing financial support for the agency. He urged donor countries to fulfill their commitments and called for the reopening of dialogue channels with relevant entities to guarantee unrestricted aid delivery.
