Baghdad: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his Swiss counterpart, Ignazio Cassis, stressed the importance of launching international initiatives that could help end the conflict in the region and return to the negotiating table, while they also discussed the appointment of ambassadors for both countries.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the Foreign Ministry’s media office said in a statement that Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received a phone call on Thursday from Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis. During the call, they discussed bilateral relations between Iraq and Switzerland and ways to develop them, as well as the appointment of new ambassadors for the two countries in Baghdad and Bern.
The two sides also discussed developments in the region and the impact of the U.S.-Iran conflict on regional stability. The minister highlighted Switzerland’s positive role in bringing the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States closer together.
The two sides stressed the importance of launching international initiatives that could help end the conflict and return to the negotiating table, thereby enhancing prospects for reaching peaceful and diplomatic solutions.
At the conclusion of the call, the two sides agreed to continue coordination and consultations between Iraq and Switzerland on international issues of common interest.
