Boulogne-sur-Mer: French police announced the rescue of 168 migrants while they were attempting to cross the English Channel in small boats to reach Britain. The police highlighted the ongoing risks associated with these perilous journeys, which are often undertaken in overcrowded vessels.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the police stated that three migrants sustained injuries during the rescue operations and were subsequently transferred to a hospital in Boulogne-sur-Mer. The statement detailed that four rescue operations were conducted in the Channel off Dunkirk and Pas-de-Calais.
Current weather conditions have made the Channel crossing more appealing, with high temperatures and favorable winds blowing from the south. Despite these conditions, the sea passage remains dangerous for small boats, which are frequently overcrowded and ill-equipped for such journeys.
Tragically, two migrants lost their lives in the same area this week, increasing the death toll to eight since the beginning of the year. The incident underscores the ongoing humanitarian and safety challenges faced by migrants attempting to reach Britain across the Channel.
