Baghdad: Iraqi government spokesman Haider al-Aboudi announced on Saturday the recovery of funds, assets, and properties worth over IQD 1.359 trillion during Operation Dawn Crackdown, in addition to the registration of more than 26,000 reports of corruption cases submitted to the Integrity Commission.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Aboudi stated that the value of the recovered assets during the anti-corruption campaign is estimated at more than IQD 1.359 trillion. He highlighted that the number of corruption reports received by the Integrity Commission has exceeded 26,000, particularly during the Dawn Crackdown period.

Al-Aboudi emphasized the government’s commitment to institutional reform aimed at closing corruption loopholes, noting that the Iraqi judiciary serves as a crucial support for the anti-corruption campaign’s objectives. He also mentioned the Prime Minister’s visit to the Integrity Commission, which demonstrated full support for the Commission’s procedures under the Prime Minister’s direct supervision.

Corruption is described as a deeply rooted system impacting finance, administration, and influence, posing significant challenges to public funds and development projects. Al-Aboudi assured that the government’s anti-corruption campaign will continue without pause.

The spokesman further explained the focus on preventative measures, such as proactive contract auditing, and highlighted the importance of automation and digital transformation to reduce human intervention, thereby mitigating corruption and extortion. Additionally, he pointed out that the Informants Law offers rewards amounting to 5% of the value of recovered funds for those who report corruption cases.
