Funeral Procession in Gaza for 105 Martyrs Recovered from Rubble

Gaza City:Hundreds of Palestinians gathered for a funeral procession for 105 individuals whose bodies were retrieved from the rubble of demolished residential buildings in the Yarmouk area of Gaza City.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, mourners conducted funeral prayers over the bodies, which were wrapped in Palestinian flags, in a square facing the destroyed buildings in the Yarmouk area. The deceased were then transported to the Martyrs’ Cemetery in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, northwest of Gaza City, for burial.

Local teams, aided by technical crews from the Egyptian Committee and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), recovered the bodies from the debris on Yarmouk Street in Gaza City. These buildings had been targeted by shelling at the beginning of the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip in October 2023.

Civil Defense sources in Gaza have indicated that rescue efforts are hampered by a lack of equipment, with teams needing 10 excavators, 30 bulldozers, and 100 other machines to expedite the removal of rubble and recovery of remains. Over 8,000 bodies are still believed to be buried under the debris across the Strip.

Local crews, with support from international and Arab organizations, continue the challenging task of recovering bodies, facing significant difficulties due to restrictions on the entry of essential debris-removal equipment into the Gaza Strip imposed by the Israeli occupation.
