Baghdad: Government spokesperson Haider al-Aboudi stated that Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi’s upcoming visit to Washington is aimed at strengthening the Iraqi-U.S. partnership, with a focus on economic, trade, and investment issues at the forefront of the visit’s agenda.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Aboudi highlighted that Prime Minister Al-Zaidi’s official visit to Washington in mid-July is intended to generate necessary momentum to enhance the Iraq-U.S. partnership. The aim is to elevate it to a more effective level within the strategic relationship framework between the two countries, based on the mutual interests of the two friendly peoples.

Al-Aboudi emphasized that aligning with the Iraqi government’s priorities and its ministerial program, which has received parliamentary confidence, economic, trade, and investment issues will lead the agenda for the upcoming visit. He described these as the cornerstone of bilateral cooperation. Furthermore, he noted the government’s efforts to expand strategic partnerships with global companies and stimulate the investment environment to contribute to direct benefits for the Iraqi economy and enhance domestic stability.

He further mentioned that, as part of this stability, which relies on economic foundations and flexible management of current challenges, the Iraqi government is addressing the issue of unregulated weapons. The aim is to restrict their possession and use to the state and its competent institutions, which are constitutionally authorized to make sovereign decisions regarding this matter.

Previously, Prime Minister Al-Zaidi met with the U.S. President’s Special Presidential Envoy, Tom Barrack, at his office. They discussed their shared commitment to establishing a strong and mutually beneficial U.S.-Iraq partnership, capable of fulfilling Iraqis’ aspirations for a future marked by sovereignty, security, and prosperity while delivering tangible benefits to both Iraqi and American peoples.
