Basra: Graduate protesters in Basra are demanding job opportunities with contracts in oil companies. A number of engineering, petroleum, and science graduates demonstrated in Basra on Sunday, demanding contract-based employment opportunities within oil companies.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the demonstration was held in front of the Basra Oil Company building. The protesters called on the Ministry of Oil to petition the Prime Minister to add an item to the Cabinet’s agenda for a vote on appointing them on contracts within profitable oil companies, stressing the need to respond to their demands.

They affirmed that if their demands are not met, they will resort to an open-ended sit-in until they are fulfilled.
