Nineveh: The head of the Federal Integrity Commission, Mohammed Ali al-Lami, has declared an unwavering commitment to the ongoing nationwide anti-corruption campaign. He emphasized the inevitability of bringing those who misappropriate public funds to justice, stating that there are no red lines or protections to hinder the enforcement of the law.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Lami’s remarks came during a visit to the Nineveh Investigation Directorate, where he met with its administration and staff. He highlighted the significance of adhering to legal frameworks and the powers conferred upon the Commission. He underscored the historic and cultural importance of Nineveh, which is currently engaged in reconstruction and development efforts post-conflict. Al-Lami urged for support in these endeavors while preventing any actions that could tarnish the province’s reputation or its institutions.

Al-Lami highlighted the essential role of oversight bodies, especially the Federal Integrity Commission, in combating corruption. He called for the support of all government branches and public backing to intensify efforts against corrupt practices, cleanse state institutions, and recover misappropriated funds. He reiterated that embezzlement is a crime against all citizens and stressed that oversight outcomes should deter corruption, ensuring that wrongdoers face justice.

He encouraged the Nineveh Investigation Directorate staff to maintain rigorous and professional conduct within legal boundaries, coordinating with the judiciary and state institutions without impeding service or development projects. Al-Lami advocated for supporting honest and dedicated employees, while emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach towards negligence or favoritism, to make Nineveh exemplary in safeguarding public funds and fostering integrity.

During his tour, al-Lami also visited the Nineveh Court of Appeals and met with Vice President Judge Raed Al-Musleh. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between investigating judges and commission investigators to expedite corruption case resolutions. Al-Musleh praised the collaborative efforts that have led to significant recoveries of state funds and emphasized the national duty to maintain this momentum in the fight against corruption.
