Baghdad: The Head of Iraq’s Communications and Media Commission, Noufal Abu Ragheef, held talks today, Tuesday, with the UK Embassy’s Charg© d’Affaires in Iraq, Robin Milton, to explore avenues for bilateral cooperation in regulatory and technical fields related to the media and communications sector.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting included an exchange of views and expertise on the legal and regulatory frameworks adopted in both countries, with a particular focus on regulating digital content and monitoring the operations of social media platforms.

Both sides reviewed the British experience in safeguarding digital rights, combating piracy, and protecting intellectual property, discussing opportunities to benefit from this experience in enhancing Iraq’s regulatory environment to foster a responsible and secure media landscape.

They also underscored the importance of strengthening institutional cooperation to develop joint initiatives that promote responsible media freedoms, protect authors’ rights, and uphold professional and ethical standards in media practices, while enforcing strict measures against violators and non-compliant platforms.
