Baghdad: In a significant move aimed at enhancing healthcare accessibility, the Ministry of Health has announced a new corporate social responsibility initiative for private hospitals. Health Minister Abdul Hussein al-Moussawi revealed that the program will allocate one free surgery per week for humanitarian cases and low-income families across each private hospital.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the initiative is part of a broader strategy to foster community partnerships with the private healthcare sector. Al-Moussawi highlighted the high volume of surgeries performed by hospitals such as Medical City, which completed nearly 19,000 procedures in just June and July. Al-Kindi Hospital also reported almost 6,000 surgeries during the same period despite facing resource constraints.

The program aims to ensure fairness and transparency by coordinating with the Ministry of Health and following specific regulations. This initiative is expected to provide approximately 1,000 surgeries monthly across nearly 300 private hospitals. The objective is to expand healthcare coverage and strengthen the collaboration between public and private sectors, ultimately benefiting citizens across the nation.
