Paris: 5,764 deaths were recorded during the severe heatwave that struck France between June 17 and July 2, 2026, half of them in just three days between June 25 and 27, marking the highest daily death toll since the historic heatwave of 2003, according to the National Public Health Agency. The agency stated that the early and prolonged heatwave affected almost the entire population (98.5 percent), impacting 92 departments during a crucial period for school and work activities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, France experienced a third heatwave in mid-July. Last year, final figures from the National Health Service recorded 5,700 deaths attributed to extreme heat throughout the summer of 2025. French authorities have urged caution due to hot, dry winds expected to intensify by the end of this week, coupled with record-breaking temperatures and parched vegetation.
