Baghdad: Parliament continues to fulfill its responsibility by developing laws that protect women and families. Speaker of Parliament, Hebat Al-Halbousi, affirmed this commitment during his address at the Islamic Day for Combating Violence Against Women conference.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Halbousi highlighted the significance of the conference as an opportunity to unite efforts in safeguarding women’s rights and dignity. He stressed that the occasion serves as a reminder of the necessity to translate these principles into effective legislation and policies aimed at preventing violence and abuse against women.

Al-Halbousi acknowledged the vital role Iraqi women have played throughout the country’s history, especially during periods of war, terrorism, and displacement. He emphasized that protecting women is not solely a concern for women but a national issue crucial to societal stability and the future of coming generations.

He further elaborated on the Council of Representatives’ ongoing efforts to review and develop legislation that bolsters legal protections for women and families. This includes monitoring the implementation of laws and government policies to ensure they align with constitutional values and societal principles. Al-Halbousi underscored the need for societal awareness and cultural respect for mutual coexistence, urging collaboration between government branches, religious institutions, universities, media, and civil society to foster a stable social environment.
