In a message to the Security Council… Guterres: The situation in Gaza may threaten int’l peace and security, and the int’l community must intervene to end the crisis.

Baghdad -The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, today, Wednesday, sent a message to the Security Council regarding the situation in Gaza in accordance with Article 99 of the United Nations Charter regarding threats to international peace.

Guterres said in his message: “The situation in Gaza may threaten international peace and security, and the international community has a responsibility to use its influence to end the crisis.”

He added: "The situation in Gaza is turning into a catastrophe that may have irreversible effects on the Palestinians and on peace and security in the region."

The Secretary-General renewed his call to declare a ceasefire in Gaza, stressing: “The matter is urgent to spare the civilian population from greater harm.”
