Iraq, France Reaffirm Strategic Partnership in Security and Counterterrorism

Baghdad: Lieutenant General Qais al-Muhammadawi, Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, and General Michel Delpitle, Commander of French Special Forces, met at the Joint Operations Command headquarters on Saturday and affirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and coordination, particularly in the areas of training, counterterrorism, and the exchange of expertise and intelligence.

According to Iraqi News Agency, a statement issued by the Joint Operations Command noted that the discussions focused on enhancing cooperation and activating the memorandum of understanding signed between Iraq and France. This includes efforts in training, combating the remnants of ISIS terrorist gangs, and exchanging experiences and intelligence to bolster security capabilities and stability in Iraq, in alignment with the Iraqi constitution, regulations, and laws.

During the meeting, Lieutenant General Al-Muhammadi highlighted the progress in bilateral security relations, acknowledging France's role in supporting and coordinating these efforts. General Delpitle expressed his admiration for the competence and readiness of the Iraqi armed forces and reaffirmed France's commitment to the ongoing strategic partnership between the nations.
