Integrity Commission Arrests Man Impersonating Baghdad Airport Officer for Blackmail and Extortion

Baghdad: The Federal Integrity Commission arrested a suspect who impersonated an officer at Baghdad International Airport and engaged in blackmail and extortion.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the operation was conducted based on a judicial arrest and search warrant, with the cooperation, coordination, and supervision of an investigative judge at the Central Criminal Court for Combating Corruption. The Commission formed a working team from the Baghdad Investigation Directorate to investigate information received, which included details of a suspect posing as an airport officer to carry out blackmail and extortion activities.

The Directorate’s team, after extensive investigations and in coordination with the National Security Service, located the suspect. It was revealed that he had been previously convicted of theft and was incarcerated at the Iraqi Correctional Service, from where he continued to extort money. An arrest warrant was issued against him.

The Commission prepared a formal report on the operation in accordance with Law No. 9 (160 of 1983), as amended. This report, along with the accused and the seized criminal evidence, was presented to the investigating judge of the Central Criminal Court for Combating Corruption, who ordered the suspect’s detention pending further investigation.
