Baghdad: The Federal Integrity Commission has declared a six-year prison sentence and a substantial fine for the Director General of the Middle Euphrates Electricity Production Company, following his conviction for accepting a bribe to facilitate the release of payments to a company.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Integrity Commission revealed that the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court handed down a six-year prison term and a fine of ten million dinars against the Director General and one of the company’s employees. The charges were based on accusations of accepting bribery in return for processing the company’s financial dues.

The court’s decision came after a thorough examination of the evidence and proofs collected by the commission, which were deemed sufficient and convincing for a conviction. The judgment was rendered in accordance with the provisions of Resolution (160 of 1983), following an investigation and referral by the commission to the judiciary.

The Integrity Commission had previously executed a judicial warrant against the Director General in the middle of last month, citing charges related to bribery.
