Doha: The head of the Integrity Commission, Mohammed Ali al-Lami, announced the commission's official accession to the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA). This significant development was revealed during the IAACA's annual conference and 15th general assembly, which were both held in Doha, Qatar.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Lami led the delegation representing Iraq at the event. He highlighted that joining the IAACA would bolster Iraq's international reputation in the realm of anti-corruption, allowing the country to benefit from global expertise and stay abreast of new strategies in combating corruption. This move reflects Iraq's commitment to aligning with global anti-corruption standards and practices.
The Integrity Commission's statement mentioned that the conference commenced with a speech from the Association's President, Danny Wu Ying-ming, who greeted the delegates and expressed hopes for the conference's success. The event featured discussions on international anti-corruption strategies, emphasizing the use of modern technology to combat corruption and the importance of public engagement in these efforts.
Furthermore, the 15th General Assembly of the Association reviewed its achievements and initiatives from the past year and set goals for the upcoming year, including the approval of new memberships. The timing of this conference coincided with the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, which ran from December 15-19.
