Baghdad: The Iraqi National Intelligence Service announced on Friday the transfer of 47 French nationals accused of belonging to the terrorist organization ISIS from Syria to Iraq for trial.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the service confirmed that these individuals are suspected of being part of ISIS and are wanted by the Iraqi judiciary for their involvement in terrorist activities. Some of these suspects allegedly participated in crimes within Iraq between 2014 and 2017 when ISIS controlled several Iraqi governorates. Others are accused of engaging in activities that threatened Iraqi national security from outside the country.
The transfer of these suspects to Iraqi territory was executed based on judicial arrest warrants, following investigations supervised by the judiciary. They will be tried under Iraqi law. The Iraqi National Intelligence Service reiterated its commitment to pursuing ISIS elements, regardless of their nationality or location, who have committed crimes against the Iraqi people.
