Interior Ministry Arrests 308 Suspects in September Crackdown

Baghdad:Security forces arrested 308 suspects in September on various charges, seizing weapons, ammunition, drugs, and money.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Maj. Gen. Miqdad Miri, head of the Interior Ministry’s Relations and Media Department, stated that operations by the Rapid Response Division led to these arrests. The suspects included 31 in corruption cases, 55 in drug-related cases, and 16 under the Anti-Terrorism Law’s Article 4.

Additionally, 206 suspects were detained through warrants under various laws. The operations involved 124 security activities, 196 patrols, 78 ambushes, security deployments, and 101 checkpoints. The forces undertook two search-and-clearance operations, three encroachment removal operations, and intervened in three tribal disputes.

Confiscated items included 21 firearms, 356 ammunition pieces, 32 ammunition magazines, 131 rounds, 6.047 million Iraqi dinars, $1 million, 18 mobile phones, and other materials. In drug seizures, 1,425 grams of crystal meth, 305 grams of hashish, and 92 narcotic pills were found, along with drug paraphernalia.

Maj. Gen. Miri highlighted that these efforts are part of broader security operations to enhance safety, pursue fugitives, combat crime and drugs, and uphold the law.
