Baghdad: The General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances at the Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday the arrest of an international drug trafficking network, the operation resulted in the seizure of 38 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine destined for the Arar border crossing.

According to Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Directorate indicated that "security forces within the Directorate, in coordination and cooperation with the Asayish (security forces) of the Kurdistan Region in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, dealt a significant blow to international drug trafficking networks, resulting in the seizure of 38 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and the arrest of members of an international network involved in smuggling and distributing narcotics."

The statement added that, "this operation came after careful intelligence work and intensive field monitoring, where the detachments were able to monitor the movements of the network and bring it down, and seize the narcotic materials that were prepared to be smuggled through the Arar border crossing to one of the neighboring countries, before it reached its intended destination."

It pointed out that "this operation reflects the high level of security coordination between it and the security services in the Kurdistan Region, which contributes to thwarting the plans of organized crime gangs and drying up the sources of drug smuggling."
