Baghdad: The Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday that it had detected fabricated rumors created using artificial intelligence and old videos being republished.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the head of the Department of Relations and Media at the Ministry of Interior, Major General Miqdad Miri, highlighted a significant increase in security and economic rumors, which contributed to a total increase of 18 percent in such activities. He explained that the Directorate of Cybercrimes is actively engaged in monitoring these cases, closing offending accounts and pages, and arresting those responsible.
Miri elaborated that the misleading content identified has been forwarded to the Cybercrime Directorate for necessary legal action. He noted that instances of using artificial intelligence and fabrication techniques have been detected, along with the re-publication of outdated videos or videos originating from other countries.
He emphasized one of the major concerns is the tendency of some citizens to engage with and disseminate this misleading information without verifying its authenticity.
