Baghdad: Iran has announced a temporary alteration to shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, linking the move to the cessation of ongoing conflict. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi revealed plans to implement significant changes in collaboration with Oman to facilitate maritime traffic in the Gulf region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Gharibabadi indicated that the new arrangement involves ships entering the Gulf through Iranian territorial waters, while the exit will occur via Omani territorial waters. He emphasized that this setup is provisional, with Iran and Oman planning to negotiate a permanent solution within the next 30 to 60 days to replace the previous maritime traffic regulation system.

Gharibabadi further explained that the “southern route of the Strait of Hormuz will be closed,” a decision reached in agreement with Oman. The International Maritime Organization is set to be informed of these changes, marking a significant shift in regional maritime logistics.
