Baghdad: Communications Minister Mustafa Sand and his Iranian counterpart, Sattar Hashemi, emphasized on Wednesday the importance of strengthening the partnership between the two countries in the communications sector.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Sand stated that the meeting in Baghdad with Minister Hashemi focused on exploring prospects for bilateral cooperation in the communications sector, particularly during the Arbaeen pilgrimage. The statement highlighted Iran’s advanced cyber capabilities, digital transformation, and electronic payment systems, noting the country’s use of local applications in various fields.

The discussions led to an agreement to hold joint technical meetings between the ministries’ teams to exchange and transfer successful experiences. Iraq and Iran are connected through six vital fiber optic cable crossings and share a long border, historical ties, and a joint effort against terrorism.
