Baghdad: Iraq and Saudi Arabia have taken a significant step towards enhancing their military cooperation by signing a memorandum of understanding. Defense Minister Thabet Mohammed Saeed Al-Abbasi and Saudi Arabia’s Prince Khalid bin Salman formalized the agreement, indicating a strengthening of ties between the two nations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the memorandum was signed during Al-Abbasi’s visit to Saudi Arabia, where he led a high-level security delegation. The meeting, attended by the Iraqi Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Safiya Al-Suhail, focused on the bilateral relations between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, highlighting regional security developments and efforts to mitigate escalating tensions.

The discussions also included establishing a mechanism for joint training exercises between Iraqi and Saudi forces. Both parties agreed to conduct joint military courses and exercises, and addressed the initiative of sending injured Iraqi soldiers to Saudi Arabia for medical treatment. The signing of t
