Iraq and Tunisia Discuss Strengthening Economic Ties and United Stance on Palestinian Issue


Jeddah: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein engaged in discussions with Tunisian counterpart Mohamed Ali Nafti on enhancing bilateral relations between Iraq and Tunisia, focusing on economic collaboration, during the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Tunisian minister expressed gratitude to Iraq for hosting the Arab Summit in Baghdad and praised the efforts that led to its success. He highlighted the alignment of Tunisian and Iraqi positions on the Palestinian issue and welcomed the resolution issued by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.



Both parties reviewed the status of bilateral relations, commending the exchange of visits between the leaderships of the two countries and emphasizing the need to boost economic cooperation. Nafti noted Tunisia’s initiatives to strengthen ties, such as the launch of a direct flight between Baghdad and Tunis, the exemption of Iraqi citizens from entry visas, and the expansion of cooperation in energy and food supplies. He also expressed appreciation for Iraq’s support in the oil and wheat sectors.



Hussein, on his part, appreciated the Tunisian delegation’s participation in the Arab Summit in Baghdad and reiterated Iraq’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause. He cautioned against the dangers of Israeli occupation practices, including the annexation of the West Bank, ongoing aggression against Gaza, and the obstruction of humanitarian aid to the besieged population. He stressed the necessity of regional and international efforts to support the Palestinian people in achieving their legitimate rights.
