Iraq Celebrates Sovereignty Day as Key Milestone in National History


Baghdad:Fayhan: Sovereignty Day, observed on September 30, signifies a pivotal moment in the history of Iraq as it marks the end of the presence of U.S. and other foreign forces on Iraqi soil, alongside a schedule for Turkish forces to depart.



According to Iraqi News Agency, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Adnan Fayhan emphasized that these developments will enable Iraq to regain full security and military sovereignty over its land and airspace. This follows the sacrifices made by Iraqis in their struggle against forces of hegemony and extremism.



Fayhan described the achievement as a national milestone, reflecting Iraq’s complete sovereignty over its territory and resources. He noted that the occasion paves the way for a new phase focused on construction, development, and strengthening state institutions.



He further stated that this historic achievement represents a victory for the Iraqi people’s commitment to independent decision-making and full sovereignty. It affirms Iraq’s right to define its security, political, and economic strategies according to national interests, free from external influence.



The development provides a strong foundation for building a capable state that upholds the rule of law and enhances cooperation with regional and international partners. Fayhan expressed gratitude to the religious authority, martyrs, fighters of the Popular Mobilization Forces, armed forces, armed factions, and the Peshmerga for their contributions to achieving sovereignty.



He also extended his thanks to the Coordination Framework, national political forces, past and present governments, Iraq’s tribes, and all components of society. Fayhan acknowledged the support of international allies, including the Islamic Republic and Hezbollah, during Iraq’s challenging period.
