Baghdad: Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed to his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdel-Aty, on Sunday, Iraq's condemnation of the attack that targeted two ships in the port of Damietta. A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that "Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held a telephone conversation with the Foreign Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Badr Abdel-Aty."

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the statement added that "at the outset of the call, Fuad Hussein expressed the Republic of Iraq's condemnation of the attack that targeted two ships inside the port of Damietta by a drone," emphasizing "Iraq's solidarity with the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt and its rejection of anything that threatens the security of civilian facilities and the safety of navigation."

It continued that "the two sides discussed preparations for the meeting scheduled to be held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, next Wednesday, to discuss developments related to the city of Jerusalem," stressing the importance of coordinating Arab positions on issues of common interest.

The statement indicated that "the two sides discussed the latest regional developments, particularly those related to the conflict in the Strait of Hormuz," and stressed that "sustainable solutions lie in returning to negotiations and adopting peaceful means and dialogue to resolve disputes, thus contributing to strengthening security and stability in the region."

It also noted that "Hussein addressed the situation in Iraq and Iraqi-Gulf relations, and reviewed the policies of the Iraqi government under Prime Minister Ali Mohsen al-Ahmad, especially regarding the decision to restrict weapons to the state."
