Iraq Ends Global Coalition Mission, Moves to Bilateral Relations

Baghdad:Prime Minister’s Security Adviser Qasim al-Araji announced a significant development for Iraq as the international coalition’s mission concludes, marking a transition to bilateral relations with coalition countries. This shift is expected to enhance national sovereignty and align with Iraq’s national interests and the aspirations of its people.

According to the Iraqi News Agency, al-Araji highlighted that this milestone is the result of negotiations and understandings that began on July 22, 2021. He emphasized that the conclusion of the Global Coalition’s mission and the withdrawal of its forces pave the way for stronger sovereignty and serve the national interests of the Iraqi people.

Al-Araji also acknowledged the role of the Global Coalition and friendly nations in achieving victory over the terrorist group ISIS. This success was made possible by the sacrifices of Iraqis and the bravery of the Iraqi armed forces, along with international support.

Despite the end of the coalition’s mission, al-Araji noted that the partnership would continue through more established bilateral relations. This will involve ongoing security and intelligence cooperation, information exchange, expertise sharing, and capacity building. The focus will be on mutual respect and shared interests to bolster security, stability, and support the aspirations of the Iraqi people for lasting peace, development, and prosperity.
