Baghdad:The national football team of Iraq has been eliminated from the Gulf Cup following a 2-0 defeat by Saudi Arabia. This loss dashed Iraq’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the outcome allowed Saudi Arabia to secure a place in the semi-finals, as they topped Group A with an unbeaten record. Meanwhile, Oman also advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Kuwait 3-1.
Iraq and Oman ended the group stage with the same number of points and goal difference. However, Oman advanced thanks to the fair play criteria, specifically the yellow card count, which worked in their favor and resulted in Iraq’s elimination from the tournament.
