MP Mohammed Shaher Sentenced to 7 Years for Illicit Enrichment


Baghdad:A member of parliament, Mohammed Farman Shaher Salman Al-Jubouri, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for unlawful enrichment.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Federal Integrity Commission reported that the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court convicted Shaher in absentia. He is required to repay illicit gains totaling approximately 11.8 billion Iraqi dinars and $1.73 million, as well as a fine equal to the value of the unlawful proceeds.

The total amount involved, including fines, exceeds 28.1 billion Iraqi dinars. Additionally, Shaher received a three-year prison sentence for concealment, with the longer sentence to be enforced. His assets, both movable and immovable, have been seized, and the Integrity Commission has been given the authority to seek compensation for damages once the ruling is finalized.
