Iraq Increases Gas Output at Al-Gharraf Field to 37 Million Cubic Feet Per Day

Baghdad:The Ministry of Oil announced a significant increase in the volume of processed gas at the Al-Gharraf oil field, reaching 37 million standard cubic feet per day.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Deputy Oil Minister for Gas Affairs, Izzat Saber Ismail, highlighted the importance of developing associated gas investment projects at the field. The new gas processing and compression system’s commissioning is part of the first phase of gas investment operations, boosting processed gas volumes to the stated level.

The project focuses on expanding the use of associated gas, supporting electricity generation plants, reducing environmental impacts from gas flaring, and maximizing the use of national resources. Ismail also acknowledged the contributions of national personnel at the Thi Qar Oil Company, along with Malaysia’s Petronas and subcontractor Italia Fluid, in completing the project. He praised the engineering, technical, and administrative teams for their efforts.

The ministry plans to further support gas investment projects and develop necessary infrastructure for the second phase, aiming to increase associated gas utilization and bolster Iraq’s energy sector. The associated gas processing and compression system (GCS) was inaugurated at the second separation station at Al-Gharraf oil field in Dhi Qar province, with an operating capacity between 15 million and 22 million standard cubic feet per day. This effort is part of the ministry’s strategy to expand gas utilization and reduce flaring.
