Baghdad:National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Abboudi has announced that a partnership with the International Coalition has successfully repatriated more than 20,000 Iraqis from Al-Hol camp. This marks a transition to a new phase of cooperation between Iraq and its international partners.
According to the Iraqi News Agency, Al-Abboudi highlighted the importance of remembering the sacrifices of Iraqi martyrs in the fight against terrorism. He emphasized that these efforts are crucial in ensuring that victims and their needs remain central to international efforts to combat terrorism and prevent future tragedies.
Al-Abboudi noted that these achievements were made possible through the support of the International Coalition. Iraq is now moving from achieving victory over ISIS to strengthening its capacity to prevent the group’s resurgence and contribute to regional security and stability. As part of these efforts, Iraq, in coordination with the International Coalition, has agreed to transfer ISIS detainees from northeastern Syria, involving extensive work by Iraqi institutions.
He stated that the Iraqi judiciary has completed preliminary investigations into 5,704 detainees, with diplomatic missions verifying their citizenship for court proceedings. The Iraqi judiciary’s expertise is recognized internationally, as it is entrusted with trying foreign defendants from 62 different nationalities. Al-Abboudi assured that Iraq will handle these cases following bilateral agreements and Iraqi law, maintaining the principle of reciprocity.
