Baghdad: Iraqi Minister of Water Resources Muthanna al-Tamimi announced on Sunday the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Turkish company Kolaysoft to implement smart water management solutions in Iraq.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the agreement is aimed at establishing a joint framework to enhance the smart management of water resources. This initiative seeks to promote more efficient water usage while supporting and advancing digital transformation projects within the country. In a statement, the Ministry of Water Resources emphasized the importance of adopting modern technologies to address the increasing climate challenges and rising water consumption rates in Iraq.

Following the signing of the memorandum, Minister al-Tamimi highlighted that the agreement would not impose any financial obligations on the Ministry of Water Resources. He pointed out that the collaboration would leverage Kolaysoft's expertise to develop an integrated system for monitoring and measuring both surface and groundwater, as well as for collecting and managing related data.

The agreement also outlines the development of monitoring and analytical programs to track water usage and consumption points. Additionally, it includes the deployment of remote meter-reading devices and sensing technologies. Al-Tamimi noted that training programs for ministry personnel and cooperation on digital transformation systems, aligned with national priorities, are also part of the agreement. Furthermore, the deal encompasses the development of a geographic information system to map water sources, facilities, and usage points, linking their data to digital maps.
