Iraq Thwarts Terrorist Attacks in Europe, Confirms National Security Head


Baghdad: The head of the National Security Service, Abdul Karim Al-Basri, announced that Iraq has successfully thwarted numerous terrorist attacks intended for European countries. This was confirmed during a meeting held in Baghdad between Al-Basri and Brigadier General Abdullah Sheikh Ismail, the Somali Minister of Internal Security, along with his delegation.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting emphasized the deep-rooted historical relations between Iraq and Somalia, highlighting the shared destiny of the two nations in combating terrorism. The Somali Minister applauded Iraq’s significant role and experience in counter-terrorism efforts. Both parties underlined the essential contribution of intelligence in tackling terrorist threats.



Al-Basri elaborated on the National Security Service’s notable achievements in international counter-terrorism, particularly Iraq’s role in providing proactive intelligence that led to the prevention of potential terrorist activities in Europe and the apprehension of high-risk terrorist operatives.



The discussions concluded with an agreement to enhance joint security cooperation and develop intelligence-sharing mechanisms between Iraq and Somalia. This collaboration aims to improve the security capabilities of both countries in addressing shared security challenges.
