Baghdad: The Ministry of Culture announced plans to rehabilitate five archaeological sites in each governorate and transform them into tourist destinations.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, Qasim Al-Sudani, emphasized that developing the tourism sector is a national issue involving multiple institutions, including the Ministries of Transport and Health, and local governments in the governorates. Al-Sudani highlighted the importance of integrating these systems to foster tourism development.

Al-Sudani stated that the Ministry is committed to activating all tourism activities and improving tourism services in Iraq. He noted that the security stability in Iraq is an attractive factor for tourists worldwide, citing recent visits by tourist groups to Iraq and the marshes.

Al-Sudani further explained that the Ministry has streamlined visa procedures to revitalize tourism, making the tourism map clearer for visitors. There is also a plan to develop some archaeological sites into tourist destinations.

He detailed a plan to develop five archaeological sites in each governorate into tourist destinations. Iraq’s tourism sector focuses on religious and archaeological tourism, central to the Ministry’s plans. This development requires adequate resources to enhance archaeological sites, reflecting Iraq’s cultural and historical character.
